Our Story
We are often asked, “How did WheelyQ get started?” – Well, sit back, grab a tri tip sandwich and allow us to tell our story!
Collin has a progressive neuromuscular disease called Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA). This ugly disease has weakened his muscles to the point where he has lost his ability to walk. Around his 40th birthday, he was at a bit of a crossroads with his career and was wondering what his next adventure would be.
Kyla is Collin’s wife, cheerleader and typically the one with all the crazy ideas. For Collin’s 40th birthday, Kyla surprised him with his first smoker! For his party, Collin thought it would be fun to make and give away BBQ Sauce as a party favor – cool, right? So, Collin threw a bunch of ingredients together and whipped up a deliciously huge batch of sauce to give away.
Leap of Faith
After the party, Collin received tons of questions and comments like:
“Hey, where did you get that sauce you gave away at your party?”
“That sauce you gave us was awesome – where did you get the recipe?”
“Did you actually make that sauce you gave us? That should be in stores!”
Curious if this feedback was legit, Collin and Kyla did some taste tests with family, friends and neighbors. With this input, they began tweaking the recipe and landed on a recipe they absolutely loved! They began bottling up this delicious barbecue sauce out of their kitchen and just like that, Collins' next adventure, WheelyQ Barbecue, was born!
Our Purpose is to
Have A Purpose!
In 2014 WheelyQ Barbecue became an official business! Anyone can start a business and set out to make money. Collin and Kyla try to live with purpose. From the very beginning of WheelyQ Barbecue, there was never a doubt that giving back was going to be the backbone of the business.
Collin and Kyla decided to use their business as a platform to raise awareness for Spinal Muscular Atrophy and donate a portion of profits to research. Since its inception, the business has sold over 10K bottles of sauce, added rubs and seasonings to the line and donated to SMA Charities from the start!
